Gold and silver from Peru once crossed this road by mule on the way to Spain. Five hundred years later, the colonial stones remain hidden in rainforest only 30 minutes from Panama City's skyline.
This is our most accessible route and a family favorite: a relaxed pace, stops for history, frequent wildlife sightings and a picnic looking toward ships waiting to cross the Panama Canal.
It suits anyone comfortable on a bicycle. Children can join from age ten, and bikes are included.
