Volcán Barú is the one place in Panama where, on a clear day, you can see the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea at the same time. We reach the summit before sunrise — then ride down.
A private 4x4 climbs to 3,475 meters in the dark. After sunrise and hot coffee, the trail moves from loose volcanic rock into cloud forest and finally onto fast tracks through coffee country. The descent loses close to 2,000 vertical meters.
This is a technical day for riders with real descending experience. Your brakes will ask for mercy; you will not want the trail to end.
